First and second generations at Dungarvan
In the past 10 years, two major contributions have allowed us to bring together a likely structure of the 1st and 2nd generations of the family tree.
- Firstly, the emergence of the Will abstract of John Beresford, born Deelish, died Annestown 1813.
- Secondly, shared DNA, via Ancestry DNA and others.
We have shared DNA matches between John 1813 and all the known 2nd generation branches.
- Nicholas – Castlequarter
- Henry – Monarud Ballintoor
- James – Powerstown and Albany NY
- Phillip – Newfoundland.
- Thomas – Annestown.
- It is likely that John had daughters also. Not yet identified.
- Patrick born 1749 was shown on some early family trees as the 1st known male in the Beresford Dungarvan line. This is understandable as he was the oldest male buried at Garranbane, the burial place of so many Beresford’s from the Dungarvan area.
However, Patrick 1749-1831 and his wife Ellen Moloney 1761-1818 could not be the parents of Nicholas Beresford (Deelish) born 1767 as Ellen was born in 1761. Patrick had one son Thomas (Bunmahon) and the family male line was extinct ~1865. See Bunmahon family branch.
At this point, we have no shared DNA links to any descendant of the Bunmahon branch. We continue to search and hope to make that DNA link.
Shared DNA with “Curraghmore”.
We have shared DNA between the descendants of John died 1813 and the descendants of the Curraghmore families. It is very likely that Beresford Dungarvan are descended from Sir Marcus Beresford 4th Baronet as shown in the chart.
With a spouse unknown, Sir Marcus is the likely progenitor of the Beresford Dungarvan line. We are also evaluating if there are other possibilities.
